Are
we absolutely sure that there are no absolutes?
Any Absolutes? Absolutely by Dr. Norman L. Geisler
Can
a system of ethics be sustained apart from a belief in moral absolutes?
And, can a belief in moral absolutes be sustained apart from a biblical
world view? Norman Geisler provides
compelling answers to these questions in this highly readable survey of
basic issues and options in Christian ethics.
Philosophical Problems with Moral Relativism by Francis Beckwith
In
moral debate in the United States today, many people resort to moral
relativism. They argue that there are no objective moral values which
help us to determine what is right or wrong. They claim "everything
is relative." In order to defend this position, the relativist puts
forth two arguments: (1) Since people and cultures disagree about
morality, there are no objective moral values; (2) Moral relativism
leads to tolerance of practices we may find different or odd. These two
arguments are seriously flawed. In addition, the moral relativist has a
difficult time explaining moral progress, moral reformation, and
clear-cut cases of moral saints and moral devils.

The Postmodern Challenge: Facing the Spirit of the Age by Jim Leffel and
Dennis McCallum
"Openness"
(without the restraint of reason) and "tolerance" that rejects
all moral absolutes are the mandates of postmodern ideology. This
thinking has dominated America’s "politically correct"
universities for over a decade. Moreover, postmodernism is gaining a
clear and growing consensus in popular culture. Consequently, Christians
today face unique challenges as we seek to communicate the gospel in a
compelling way. In order to speak to the "it’s true for me
because I believe it" mentality, Christian communicators must
understand and critique the foundations of postmodern relativism. We
must also develop new and creative pre-evangelistic approaches to
establish common ground with our secular culture.

Rick Wade
Probe
Ministries' Rick

them more closely reflects the biblical perspective. From Stand

What About Hell? by Douglas Groothuis
Is
the doctrine of hell a hindrance or a help in witnessing? Many
evangelicals are ashamed of this biblical doctrine, viewing it as a
blemish to be covered up by the cosmetic of divine love. But this
dishonors God’s Word. Jesus warned His hearers of the eternal
punishment awaiting those who reject Him (Matt. 13:40-42; 25:46). If we
clearly and compassionately expound the truth about hell, we may be
surprised to find people responding to it in faith.
